Ramadan

A festival commemorating the charter anniversary celebration of Marawi City Highlights of the festival are Qur’an Reading Contest, presentation of colorful Muslim songs and dances, Islamic Quiz Bee, exhibits of Maranao crafts, native delicacies, traditional games and musical instruments competition.

Maulid En Nabi

 is the observance of the birthday of the Islamic prophet Muhammad which is commemorated in Rabi' al-awwal, the third month in the Islamic calendar

Traditional Dances

Singkil is a folk dance of the Maranao people of Lake Lanao based on the epic legend Darangen, which was popularised by the Bayanihan Philippine National Folk Dance Company.

Kaganat sa Darangen. Is the most aristocratic of the Maranao traditional dances, should be performed by someone who has the aptitude to move theatrical.

Cuisine

Palapa is made of caramelized shallots, ginger and chili peppers. It is mainly used as an ingredient in many Maranao dishes such as the bakas piaparan, yellow fin tuna cooked in coconut milk.

Rice is colored with turmeric and flavored with salt, laurel leaves and olive oil, and cooked the usual way, creating the kuning.

It is neatly wrapped in a banana leaf. Unwrapping the banana leaf, you will find the packed rice topped with either sauteed shredded chicken meat  or beef or flakes of fish abodo/tuna.

Pater

Beef rendang is one of the specialties of Maranao people. It is caramelized beef curry. Cooke with coconut milk to reduced the dish’s darkness and add consistency to its sweetness.
